I get asked this question every day almost, mostly by people who have bought some kind of robot, that promised to make them rich and ended up sucking up all their trading money.
We live in a culture that promises instant gratification, immense riches for just doing nothing, alas, this is a marketers lie, just to get you to buy the product.
I have been trading Forex for 7 years now, and make a regular living, often I record my live trades and you can find them on my blog and on YouTube. Trading requires skill, patience, perseverance and of course some working capital, like any other business.
Whatever you do, don't get sucked in to empty promises, pay x dollars for a trading robot, or x thousands for a Forex trading training course. Take a deep breath, make sure you really want to do it. Validate your reasons and ask yourself: "Can I live with uncertainty and insecurity?" be honest with yourself and if the answer is no, forget it, go and do something else.
If on the other hand, you can, then spend the time learning exactly what it is about. Learn also, what it is not about. Here are some basic facts about Forex trading:
1. It is a massive market and is primarily controlled by large institutional players working for financial organizations. 2. No matter how big you trade, you a small fry compared to the big boys. 3. Currencies respond quickly and sharply to news events, certainly the planned ones like CPI, GDP, Interest rate etc, but can often also turn on dime when some unexpected news item hits the wire. This is particularly true when some central banker is speaking. 4. If no special news currencies tend to trade in ranges, and it is important to find out what they are. 5. This is a highly leveraged market, and leverage can work against you. Make sure you know how many Dollars per pip you are trading.
